SEXTOYS.CO.UK asked people with Multiple Sclerosis if they experience sexual wellness dysfunction symptoms impacting their orgasm such as low libido, and fatigue.

The Missing O is our response to tackle this head-on. 97% of the people with MS that we asked, said they experience sexual dysfunction symptoms.

*We took out a survey in conjuction with Roxy Murray and MSTogether and asked 115 people with Multiple Sclerosis, aged 16-79, about their symptoms of sexual dysfunction and MS. The shocking results are below.

While it is often well known in the MS community that many people with MS experience difficulty achieving orgasm, many people do not openly discuss it, let alone with a doctor. It can be an embarrassing topic, and discussing it with professionals can be challenging. That's why SEXTOYS.CO.UK is breaking the silence with real solutions backed by experts and the MS community.

Doctors should be educated on MS sexual dysfunction and have the toolbox to provide real advice. Sexual well-being is important for mental health, but also for healthy relationships and many people with MS report stress in their relationships due to these sexual health concerns.

Sexual well-being plays a crucial role in mental health and in nurturing fulfilling relationships. Many people with MS report experiencing relationship stress due to these significant sexual health concerns. We are also collaborating with junior doctors at King’s College to ensure they are prepared to have inclusive, open conversations with all individuals living with MS.” Read less

“Multiple sclerosis affects over 150,000 people in the UK. The more sensitive symptoms of MS are often overlooked and rarely discussed, even within the community, despite their prevalence. That’s why we’re pleased to see increasing research, surveys shedding light on the topic of sexual dysfunction.”

“MS can cause many different symptoms, including muscle weakness, reduced touch sensation and visual changes. Some of the symptoms that are less talked about, but not less important, are how having Multiple Sclerosis can affect sexual health. Tiredness, muscle weakness, and reduced sensation can all negatively affect how the body responds to touch. Alongside sexual aids, talking therapy and exercise programs can also address sexual health concerns. Open communication with healthcare providers about sexual health and exploring potential solutions, including the use of sexual aids, is crucial for managing this aspect of MS, and the onus should be on medical practitioners to include sexual dysfunction in the symptoms they monitor.” Read less

THE IMPACTS of MS and sexual health

Good sex is a vital part of our overall wellbeing, whether alone or with (an)other(s) - this is no less important when you have MS. Finding ways to navigate neurological symptoms and disability can even provide a new pleasure as it introduces a level of physical and emotional intimacy unique to the needs of a disabled body, and the partner (or partners) who helps to meet them.
