5 things you might not know about orgasm

Recently I was asked to take part in a variety show and to offer a 5 minute piece called ‘5 things you might not know about sex’. Well, I was thrilled and terrified of course. Thrilled to get to talk about sex to a captive audience, but terrified to have to do it justice in just five minutes. I don’t know yet what I’m going to talk about, however, in thinking about it, I came up with ‘5 things you might not know about orgasms’. Here they are for you to enjoy…

  1. It’s possible to have an orgasm without physical stimulation. Various conscious sexuality practices have known about breath and energy orgasms for 1000’s of years. Recently an American sex educator was scanned in an FMRI machine having a breath and energy orgasm. In the end the doctors confirmed that yes, the exact same parts of the brain lit up as during a physically stimulated orgasm.
  2. It’s possible to feel an orgasm all over your body, not just in your genitals. Learning to move sexual energy around the body, creating pathways for this energy to follow means that not only can you feel the pleasure of your orgasm in your genitals, but in your entire body! An extended, all over, full body orgasm is possible for just about everyone who wants to learn.
  3. Orgasm and ejaculation are two different processes. It is possible to orgasm without ejaculation or ejaculate without orgasm. Orgasm is a release of energy, often consisting of involuntary muscle contractions, a change in heart rate, a release of endorphins and waves of pleasure. Ejaculation often happens at the same time, but is the expulsion of semen from the body.
  4. There are lots of kinds of orgasms. Not only are there different types of sexual orgasm, but there are other kinds of orgasms too. You can have laughgasms, crygasms, heartgasms and more.
  5. Both men and women can learn to have multiple orgasms. It’s absolutely possible to learn to follow the flow of sexual energy, to move it through the body and ride the waves of pleasure. With practice, anyone can learn to have multiple orgasms!
