Most politicians tend to keep their skeletons in the closet, until someone comes along and spills the beans on their private life.
But Sally Bercow, wife of the speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow, has publicly revealed intimate details about the “ladette” lifestyle she enjoyed in her 20s.
The 40-year-old told the London Evening Standard that she was a real party girl who regularly had one-night stands.
“I wasn’t looking for love,” she confessed. “I would end up sometimes at a bar and someone would send a drink over. I’d think ‘why not?’ and we’d go home together.”
She said she enjoyed the excitement of not knowing how her evening was going to end, describing her lifestyle as “work hard, play hard”.
Now a teetotaller, Sally has calmed her wild ways and is planning to stand as a Labour candidate in the council elections next May.
The former Oxford University student said she wanted to air her dirty laundry before she entered into public life.
One politician who was left embarrassed by personal revelations recently was Jacqui Smith, who accidentally submitted a claim for two adult films with her internet bill.
Her husband claimed responsibility and apologised publicly for the error.
