Prioritise lovemaking to keep the passion alive

Many couples who’ve been together for years find it difficult to keep the passion alive in the bedroom, but making sexual intimacy a mutual priority can help.

According to Paula Hall, sexual and relationship psychotherapist at counselling service Relate, it’s important to prioritise sex and create the right environment for it to happen.

"Lots of couples just end up just getting out of the habit of things like going to bed at the same time, or they read in bed, they go back to wearing pyjamas all that sort of thing," she explained.

Ms Hall acknowledged that as people lead busier lives, it can be tough to find the time and then to get in the mood when the opportunity does arise.

For women, this can be more difficult, as sexual desire is as much about emotional wellbeing as physical desire.

But she claimed that the healthier a woman is and the more sexual self confidence she has, the higher her sex drive is likely to be.

"Often once you start you begin to get in the mood, it’s allowing yourself to be seduced," Ms Hall stated.

Her comments come after research from Sky Real Lives revealed that over a quarter of women aged 35 and over never have sex.
