Female Viagra a step closer?

Pharmacists may be one step closer to developing Viagra for women following new research into female sexual arousal.

Pfizer, the company behind Viagra, said it has been experimenting with a prototype drug that increases blood flow to the genital area.

It said the results are encouraging and may help to pave the way for new treatments that will help ladies suffering from female sexual arousal disorder.

Around half of women will experience some form of sexual dysfunction at some point in their lives.

However, their problems are often more complex than men’s, and Pfizer has pointed out that its drug – so far named only as UK-414,495, will not have any impact on desire, mood or emotional problems.

Still, the research is good news for women, as it means a female alternative to Viagra may become a reality in the future.

The publication of the findings comes after two American studies concluded that men have a longer sexual life expectancy than women.

A 30-year-old man can expect to stay sexually active for another 35 years of his life, while a woman of the same age only has an average of 31 years left.
