Couple’s lovemaking overheard by London commuters

Things got a little steamy on the London Underground last week when the sounds of a couple having sex were broadcast over the tannoy.

Commuters at West Ham station were left baffled when heavy breathing and passionate cries emanated from the loudspeakers during rush hour.

Transport for London insisted the noises had not come from within the station.

A spokesman said they are likely to have been the result of outside interference with the public address system.

Describing what she heard, one Tube passenger said: “I was definitely a couple doing it there and then.

He was grunting loudly and she sounded like she was having a great time,” explained 28-year-old receptionist Laura O’Connor.

She added that the driver of the train in the station at the time must have heard the raunchy broadcast too, as the carriage doors stayed open longer than usual.

But while sex noises on the Tube are a rare occurrence, romantic rendezvous are not uncommon.

According to a survey carried out last year by user reviews and recommendations website Qype, half of London Underground passengers have attempted to chat up someone they met on the train.
