The average couple needs to have sex more than 100 times before they fall pregnant, according to a new study by fertility firm First Response.
Its research showed that conceiving a baby typically takes six months for those who have sex four times a week.
This may seem like a lengthy wait for some couples, but two-thirds of those questioned did get pregnant much quicker than they expected to.
The survey revealed that 70 per cent of aspirant mums want their child to be conceived during a loving and spontaneous love-making session.
However, some ladies take a more regimented approach, with one in ten calling their partner home from work because they were ovulating.
Dr Mike Smith, a spokesman for First Response, said: “Having sex 104 times before falling pregnant does sound a lot but, as they say, practice makes perfect.
“Trying for a baby is very exciting and many couples try to have sex at every chance.”
However, he pointed out that many women do fall pregnant the first time they have sex, so precautions are a must for those who are not trying for a baby.
