I’ve shied away from writing much here about the anti-gay marriage laws in America. Every time I’ve tried to write something, I just get too angry and nothing constructive comes out.
However, today is different. Today three more states (Maryland, Maine and Minnesota) have voted yes for same sex marriages, the first ever lesbian senator, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, has been elected and President Obama acknowledged his support for marriage equality in his victory speech.
As well as those positive moves, Rhode Island’s gay congressman was reelected and New York elected its first openly gay congressman. Other states have elected LGBT friendly senators and state representatives.
Congratulations America. You may still have a long, long way to go for LGBT rights, but at least you’re heading in the right direction.
