A friend of mine told me that it’s possible to increase your sex drive and have a better sex life by eating certain food. I’m really interested in this possibility so am wondering if it’s true, and if so, what should I be eating?
Thank you for your email. It is true that certain foods can increase your sex drive and even help you to have better sex. Food is the fuel that gives us energy and keeps all the systems of our body working well. Everything that we take in creates a chain reaction of events in our body, some immediate and some over time, so it is important to be mindful of what you eat. Eating the right foods for you will give you more energy, vitality and plenty of sex drive too.
Besides getting the right vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, it’s important that our body has an easy time of digestion too. A sluggish or overworked digestive system can lower your sex drive and decrease your overall energy. If you want to ensure your sexual health, increase your sex drive and have better sex, make some positive changes to your diet.
The quickest, easiest thing you can do is to reduce the amount of sugar, caffeine and processed foods you eat. All of these things play havoc with your blood sugar, digestive system, energy levels and even your hormones and other chemicals in the body. It’s essential to your sexual health to regulate your hormones, have easier digestion and better absorption of the nutrients in your food. Studies have shown that tobacco, alcohol and caffeine seriously disturb the delicate serotonin/dopamine levels in the brain, which can inhibit orgasm.
I would also suggest adding the following foods for glowing vitality and super juicy sexual health:
Green leafy vegetables – An absolute must for good health, especially good sexual health. Green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, lettuces, sprouts and broccoli are full of vitamin C, folic acid, iron, zinc, calcium, manganese and magnesium. These are all essential nutrients for being in the best possible shape for some good hot loving! The vitamin C boosts your immune system, keeping you strong and in good health. It also improves semen production. Iron is essential in getting oxygen through the body, which raises energy levels and can improve stamina. Zinc and magnesium also improve stamina by increasing the levels of ‘free testosterone’ in the body.
Nuts, seeds and beans – These are great sources of healthy protein, magnesium, iron and essential Omega 3 fatty acids. If you don’t get enough Omega 3 fatty acids in your diet the hormones responsible for sex drive are directly affected. Try adding delicious almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, flaxseeds, aduki beans, butter beans, kidney beans, and lentils to your daily diet.
Fresh fruit – Especially berries such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and the like. These are full of fibre, vitamin C, antioxidants and flavonoids as well as calcium, magnesium, and zinc. Flavonoids have been proven to help maintain the health of the urinary tract, the prostate and heart as well as protecting the brain. Antioxidants have many different health benefits including potentially helping with erectile dysfunction and fertility issues.
Oily fish and eggs – Another great source of protein and Omega 3 fatty acids if you are not vegetarian or vegan. They are full of vitamin D and E, which strengthens bones and muscles. Vitamin D works with your thyroid to balance sex hormones and vitamin E is great for helping women who suffer with vaginal dryness.
Coconut – Whether in the form of coconut milk, oil, flakes or any other raw form, coconut is fast becoming one of the best, overall foods for optimum health. Coconuts contain a high level of lauric acid, which has antibacterial and antifungal properties as well as aiding nutrient absorption and elevating energy levels in the body. Coconut oil stimulates metabolism (which helps digestion, weight loss and increases energy levels), helps to kill off Candida and has been shown to reduce cholesterol in the body. Coconut water has a high level of electrolytes, which help the body to regulate nerves, water retention and muscle function. This new superfood is also believed to protect against cancers, osteoporosis and boost your immune system.
It can be used either internally or externally. Use it as a safe, natural lubricant, as a moisturizer for your body and face and to heal wounds too.
Happy, healthy, sexy eating to you!
With love and delight,
